Description:
At St. John’s High School, Chandigarh a session was organized to address the prevalence of school bullying and emphasize the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment.
The school counsellor Ms. Manisha used interactive method to make the students aware about school safety. The talk aimed to define bullying, highlight its long-term impacts, and empower students with actionable safety strategies. The talk provided a clear framework for identifying bullying behaviour through three specific characteristics:
·         Intent: Behaviour meant to cause pain or distress.
·         Repetition: Acts that occur more than once over time.
·         Power Imbalance: The bully using perceived physical, social, or age-based status to target others.
 
Students were educated on the various ways bullying manifests like
Physical, Verbal, Social/Emotional, Cyberbullying (Online harassment through social media, text messages, or gaming platforms) To ensure student safety, the students were told that the victims and bystanders should report incidents to a trusted adult, such as a teacher, parent, or counsellor. The students were also told about POCSO act and IT act and how the reporting to be done on the child helpline number 1098. The talk concluded by reiterating the school’s zero-tolerance policy. Students were reminded that seeking help is a sign of strength and is the most effective way to break the cycle of bullying.
