BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The one-day workshop, known as The Edmund Rice Social Justice Meet, was held at St. John’s High School and saw the participation of students from six other schools- Sacred Heart Seior Secondary, Carmel Convent, St. Anne’s Convent School, DAV Sector 8 (Lahore), Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School and Blooms field public school.
The workshop aimed to deepen students' understanding of gender equality through a series of activities, discussions, and a panel session. The event began with a brief introduction, followed by an overview of gender equality, focusing on gender roles and historical perspectives. Students then engaged in case study discussions, where they deliberated on various real-world scenarios.
The highlight of the workshop was a panel discussion featuring eminent personalities such as Mr. Vivek Atray, a former IAS officer and motivational speaker, and Ms. Nalini Kaushal, an expert in women's health and hygiene, who is actively involved in promoting women's well-being. The panel, which also included the school principal, Brother Augustine, addressed students' questions and provided valuable insights.
Following the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to reflect on what they had learned by filling in reflection sheets, which were then displayed on a board for everyone to view. This allowed participants to share and understand different ideas and viewpoints related to gender equality, as well as explore potential actions to address these issues. Afterward, students gathered to discuss and decide on a community action project. They were introduced to various techniques, such as interview and survey methods, to help them in their planning. Each group then chose a specific aspect of gender equality to focus on and determined the actions they would take.
The session concluded with students from different schools providing feedback and receiving certificates of participation. The workshop ended on a high note, with students committed to raising awareness about gender equality, having thoroughly enjoyed and engaged with the day's activities.
